Association Between Alcohol Dependence and Depressive Episode: Before and After Treatment of the Dependence

Background: Alcoholism, also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is a broad term for any drinking of that results in mental or physical health problems like anxiety, dependence and depression. The present study was conducted with an aim to determine the association between depressive episode before after treatment dependence.
 Materials Methods: An observational among all diagnosed dependent depressed patients aged more than 18 years, attending Psychiatry OPD Medical College Kolkata period one year. After getting permission from local ethics body, initial assessment done on first visit psychiatry semi structured questionnaire socio-demographic profile using AUDIT, CIWA HAM-D 17 scale their status. Further assessments were day 14 16, next 30 35 final 2 months same scales. Relationship depression determined by Pearson corelation test represented form table scatter plot. Changes mean score different scales assessed paired t considering confidence interval (CI) 95% p value ≤ 0.05 significant.
 Result: Out 70 patients, almost 90% them below age 45 years male preponderance (94.3%). Paired result showed, scores scales, statistically significant (p=0.00). Mean AUDIT score, HAM found be decreased advancement treatment. correlation revealed, moderate relationship HAMD17 (0.522) strong (0.789).
 Conclusion: If treated properly there will automatically prevalence withdrawal induced episodes.
